Any tried one of these or got other suggestions?
Mme LAF is P'd off with constantly having to dry off clothes after mutt walking in this inclement weather.

I understand the problem but wouldn't have one of those. The dampness has to go somewhere and clothes that dry slowly in an enclosed space will smell.
I dry everything as much as possible outside, as we often have a breeze. But if it's damp, stuff gets draped over airers in front or near the wood burner : it humidifies the dry air !!

Sorry LAF, no solution. We got so used to it living in Scotland, it doesn't really bother us, it's just something we accept !!

Similar cost. Ours came with a cover over the top to keep the heat in a bit - seems to work well.

Home-made "Sheila-Maid" above the woodburner works really well, and no extra cost. If that's already got clothes drying on it, the long wax jacket just gets put on a hanger in the boiler room or hangs on a nail by the back door of the lounge - wood burner heat gets there eventually.

Yes, they're brilliant - we had one above our wood burning cuisinière in the kitchen at our last house.
Unfortunately the ceiling above our wood burner in this house is too low

I feel her pain. I wear a lightweight waterproof for dog duty in the rain. It gets hung up in the shower to dry. (the jacket not the dog)
Watch your EDF bill go up with another 600 watts on the meter. They seem to continually come up with more and more gadgets that consume 'leccy.

We have a large Whirlpool tumble dryer which we bought in Curry's on a visit to UK about 20 years ago, which we have used twice a week since then.
My wife sets its timer for 40 minutes, which is usually long enough for clothes to be adequately dried, and uses it only during off peak hours.
Its uses 3kW, and our average price of electricity last year was €0.2162 per unit, simply total cost/units consumed.

So, ignoring that we pay less during off peak hours, and that the its temperature is thermostatically controlled, so not heating continuously,
the cost per year for using the tumble drier is 3 (kW) x 2/3 (hours) x 2 (times per week) x 52 (weeks) x 0.2162 (€) = €44.96` per year.

I don't think 86 cents per week is much to pay for the convenience, and it exhausts outside, so doesn't make the house humid.

I dry all my washing with a dehumidifier. If the room it is in is reasonably warm & door shut, jeans & towels are dry within 10-12hours, easily.
