Just received SMS saying services are suspended - however we are stationary so not being turned around. Not sure who is actually on strike.

The Tunnel operator is called Getlink, part of S N C F, I think; the strike which was not announced is about bonuses, management has offered €1000 but the unions want €3000.
Lots of people in the Folkestone terminal are getting exit tickets to try and get ferries at Dover. But they may already be full and there is a nasty gale blowing.
My friend is stuck there too.

Well we are creeping forward so I guess something is running.

Ferries - gale force 8 in Channel - I'll keep queuing.

Well they seem to be letting some check in - very slowly. Most turning round so I guess heading for the ferries.

Copied from my French FB page:

"An unexpected strike action causes the closure of the Channel Tunnel "until further notice
Thursday December 21, 2023 at 2:54 p.m.
An unexpected strike action by employees of Getlink, the company managing the Channel Tunnel, led to the closure of the work, through which no trains have passed since Thursday midday. All Eurostar trains are blocked in the run-up to the end-of-year holidays.
"Channel tunnel operator Getlink announced on Thursday a total interruption of rail traffic between France and the United Kingdom Uni and the closure of its terminals in both countries due to a call for a strike by the group's French employee unions. All Eurostar trains circulating in the tunnel, but also the shuttles transporting cars and trucks are therefore blocked until further notice, while the first departures have already started for the holidays ."
