One of France's best known icons. She gave up the glitz and glamour to devote life to helping animals.

Amazing Lady. I guess they're all mere mortals, but some people will be more missed than others. I hope her legacy for helping neglected and abused animals will live on.

There’s a centre for helping animals not far from me and I often see their staff at the vets. I do hope it continues. I’m sure that local people and our vets will endeavour to continue their work.

The only memory I have of BB is that she had (or rented) a chalet in Meribel which was just above the one I was staying in for a skiing holiday in the early 70s. It was the oldest chalet in the village apparently, but has long since been pulled down - the chalet I was saying in, that is. It was called Les Roches Blanches. We build a little snowman in the back garden and guess what, BB's dogs came and pissed all over it

Its just a shame that along with all the good things she did, she also became a voice for the far right with anti muslim, anti lgbt, and even against french nationals by implying the inhabitants of Reunion were all savages.

@widge : exactly! A major RN supporter with a foul mouth. No doubt the other bits and bobs were attractive to men, but the adoration shown in street interviews on TF1 last night made me, an animal lover, feel rather nauseous.

Oh, well that's a side of her I didn't know. What a shame. Not such a wholesome person after all!
