Another fatal lorry crash

#1 Post by Bayleaf »

The 63yr old mentioned is our Dutch friend who we cook for - waiting to hear how he is in Périgueux. The younger driver, tragically, not so lucky. Our Dutch friend has always prided himself on his careful driving, I can't begin to imagine how he's feeling - the deceased not much older than his own son. :(

Horrible feeling when this happens, I was extremely lucky when my trailer went over, dragging me and the truck on our side, across the carriageway and in to the path of an oncoming flour lorry. He just about stopped in time and got out to help me out of my truck, by now spewing oil and diesel all over the road. Never drove for that company again, found out I was the third one that went over in a month, all carrying the same load.

Our friend is now home, with bruises and whip lash kicking in big time. Thankfully for him, he was actually driving a decent lorry for a change - his boss is a complete *rse and usually makes him take older ones. He wouldn't have fared so well if that had been the case. The other driver must have died on impact - came around the corner and straight into our friend's path, in a smaller benne, so didn't stand a chance. No time to even apply the brakes, and both lorries abruptly stopped on impact. He managed to get out of the passenger side of his cab, and saw the other guy ..... I'll spare you the details.

I think shock will set in soon - he'll be round for his take-away supper tonight, so some TLC might also be on the menu.

Hope he's OK Bayleaf, do you know who he drives for? You're not that far from me but it doesn't sound like my old boss, but then long distance drivers often work for long distant owners, though he did say quite some time after I left that the only foreigner he employed was a Dutchman.

Spardo . I think it's the company at St Pardoux La Riviere.

Whiplash and delayed shock setting in today. Lorry has been impounded. There's a question over whether the other driver was already unwell at the wheel, or otherwise distracted. :(

There was a murmur of that at the scene.

That's the firm I worked for, 5 minutes down the road from me, as I said before, your description of his boss does not sound like them. If your friend is the same Dutchman that I was told about, he has been with them a long time.

What we hear is that the owner/old boss is a great guy, but it's been run by the son-in-law for several years.
