Here's a tip from a pro...Lidl are selling baches 1m x 10m this week. Invaluable for laying at the foot of a hedge before cutting, can be dragged along as you go, collecting the debris. Can also be tied to the back of a ride-on and 'sledged' to the bonfire/compost heap! Saves hours of raking, shovelling, swearing under the breath etc
Thank you. I already do that. It makes life much easier as long as it isn't too heavy to lift. I have a spare ride on mower which is used for this but unfortunately all four tyres are shot. I need to replace them. Same for the wheelbarrow.
Ps bonfires, at least in my neck of the woods, are illegal now. Composting this type of material requires it to be shredded first. We did have a very big shredder but I sold it because it was just too heavy for me to move.

Compost instead of burning. All my prunings and small branches are chopped to about 50cm long and heaped in a long low stack or burrow. These become a nice black soil after a few years. Don't worry if the stack gets high, it will halve in 2 years.
