The pictures are horrific, he touched a hogweed plant in the UK but France also has a problem with these plants too. He has third degree burns. I just googled the plant it looks very similar to other weeds.

Oo poor kid that looks nasty and painful.
It looks like cow parsley which doesn't grow as big.
There are lots of plants that can cause problems for people especially if they've got allergies.

Yes, my wife is as she gets older alergic to various weeds.
Nettles, goose grass or cleaver to some, the seedheads of some grass.
The one thing which I have to look out for when strimming is a member of the elderflower family, grows upright single stem with very toxic berries get that on my skin and a heavy rash results.
Not bad like that poor boy though.

I can't remember the name but there was a plant which swamped roadsides in France a few years ago and I discovered it at the edge of my bottom pond. Not realising, I brushed against its sap several times in the sunshine and was left with painful burns, though not as bad as the boy in the picture. They left ugly brown stains on my arms which lasted for several weeks. It took me a while to identify it and, although I have forgotten the name now, it was revealed in an online report from the University of Chicago.
It is only nasty if, after getting the sap on the skin the skin is then subjected to sunlight, and that is what happened to me. The other day on clearing some large leaved plants from around my satellite dish I began to feel the first mild itching so, recognising the problem, I rushed inside to wash my arms and then return wearing a long sleeved jacket. No further problems.
