Electric Cars - fire risks

It seems electric car fires continue to be an issue:

Cargo ship carrying almost 3,000 cars aflame off Dutch coast

It's suspected the fire on board the Fremantle Highway, en route from Germany to Egypt, may have started with an EV

Following on from "special treatment" in repair yards, I wonder how long before insurance companies cotton on and wipe out any fuel savings with increased premiums?

Pity all 3000 weren't electric. It was only a handful.

According to an update by the German DPA press agency 3783 cars on board. About 28 EVs.

Vessels today: deck too hot to reach lifeboats. Imagine, jump from a height of 40 meters into the dark sea below you.

It was fortunate there was only one fatality. That is going to take some extinguishing.

Similar stories coming from USA with cars catching fire, insurers excluding claims for fires caused by electric cars kept in integral garages.
Humanity landed on the moon over fifty years ago but it seems too much to ask for a reliable telephone/internet service in rural France.

This happened on my watch. Midnight in the persian gulf coming alongside in a supertanker, a seaman who was lowering the pilot ladder had a heart attack and fell overboard more than 40m into the sea. His assistant leapt after him to save him. Bravest thing. He was rescued, but the first seaman's body was found later

Yeah, it's really not selling the idea of an EV to me, that's for sure!

The Moral:-

Don't drive your EV to a woodland layby for a family picnic!
