Kites

#1 Post by Headers »

We saw over 30 kites heading south yesterday.
I think they are about a week or so earlier than normal.

Thanks, your not far south of us then, agree its very early but a month ago we had hundreds of swallows on the lines which they do usually in september, they soon flew on.
What a peculiar year weve had.

That must have been a lovely sight Meadows. 8-)

Our swallows went away last week just before it started to warm up, that's definitely early.

It'll be interesting to see if the Grue decide to head off early this year as well.

Soon be Christmas at this rate.

Not seen many Swallows this year, our Red Kites live here all year, the ones you will have seen would be Black Kites, they head back to North Africa, they are mainly fish eaters, and living near the lakes we see a few of them in the summer. Heard a Golden Oriole yesterday which surprised me a bit, a very mixed year for flora and fauna.

From time to time we have both red and black kites here, wonderful to see them, they appear when mowing as it usually reveals insects/small beasties, like tracters working the fields do.
Golden Orials are close by every year, hear them but rarely seen
