When we had our last housed retiled, the roofer found several sleeping snakes. I think if he'd been French, he'd have run a kilometre - they have a horror of les serpents.

Our builder's Portugese labourer and his son were clearing the stack of old tiles and rubble left from our roof replacement when a very large green lizard emerged.
I heard the panicked screaming and shouting from these two brave men and arrived just in time to see them finishing chopping it to pieces with their spades.
I was quite upset, as the lizard had been resident in our garden for some time.
André, our builder, was also annoyed, and gave them a lecture on protected wildlife.
That's awful! 
I hope they learnt the error of their ways - totally unnecessary. 
), and found this little fella lurking in our rose-covered wall, well camouflaged! I think he/she saw me!
