Bird song mobile app

Having been an Artilleryman my hearing is terrible I came across a great app for mobiles having down loaded it it is independent of any connection it listens to the air and tells you who is calling .....google Merlin Bird ID

I have been using Merlin on my phone for about six months now and it is astounding how well it works. My cheap, smart phone picks up even very feint bird sounds, identifies all the birds nearby from their songs or calls, lists them with a picture of the bird and keeps highlighting their entry as they call again. You can keep the sound recordings and replay them later. It has helped me identify a few, previously unknown to me, bird calls. Sometimes the birds are completely hidden.

Brilliant. Have just used it and got the usual suspects plus a long tailed tit which we haven't seen for a couple of years .I wonder how accurate it is

Yes it seems to be very good. Accurate over a limited number of tries but I'm impressed. Will try on a walk when more chance of different birds.
