Help after losing a spouse.

My list is as follows:
Insurances - expect trouble with UK ones who frequently create mayhem since cause of death is not recorded on the certificate
Banks
pensions
CPAM
Share companies
Mairie - they may well know anyway
Subscriptions

I apologise up front for the title of the attachment below but that is how I found it (somewhere) ages ago. The content is detailed and from a reputable source.

Kick the bucket list.pdf
I have no idea if this works, too long to copy the content and paste as text.
beat me to it and in far more detail. Thanks

Get a multipart death certificate - I.e with English translations - for UK organisations.

The only problems I had were with Barclay's as they are generally crap.

Apparently the Mairie has to be told within 24hrs of death - why?! Arrangement had to be made for the deceased's body to be taken from the hospital by the end of the same day too. Apparently there are legal fees/problems after that - hopefully the funeral director has been contacted.

That list above is excellent help, thank you. Also noted that there is a list of "what NOT to do"! like, telling the utility services straight away, in case the surviving partner gets essential services cut off if the bills are in their name ....

Apart from the 24hr Mairie time limit, I'm hoping that nothing needs doing over a weekend, and we'll go armed with lists and numbers on Monday. I expect they have a Notaire.

It was an aggressive form of lung cancer that finally finished my client off. I think she preferred a quick exit now, rather than another year of pain-filled minimal quality of life. Having nearly lost the husband 5 years ago, we really thought she'd be the last one standing. Just goes to show ...

Thanks again for all the advice/help.

Edit @niemeyjt , they kicked Barclays into touch when all the "sorry, we can't be your bank anymore" kerfuffle was going on. One less bother!

The time allowed for cremation and burial has been extended to 14 calendar days. Previously the time limit for burial or cremation of a deceased person was at least 24 hours and 6 days at most after death (Sundays and public holidays not included).

Well that takes a fair bit of pressure off! It also allows residents with family and friends abroad a bit of leeway to organise travel arrangements. Thanks for that link @elsie. I had no idea that the delai had changed.

Thanks for that Elsie. I have updated my popping the clogs list accordingly. I see Hotrodder's download is in fact the list I offered in the old post, so if you are using it, please update it as per Elsie's comment. I still do not remember the source of the original info I used to create this list, whoever it was, they deserve all the credit.

edit. If you want this file for yourself, I have it in .pages format, I should be able to send it via PM in a .doc format if anyone wants the original.

I could see that being a problem in small communes. Our mairie is only open 2 days per week, unless it is subject to fermature exceptionelle.
Mind though everyone knows the maire.

As to the why: presumably because they are issuing death certificates and all of the palaver that will go on in the background so that for example the undertakers can do their work.

No worries, Lori. It's a good list - I'm going to print it off!
