I saw on the lunchtime news that these are to be transferred to Smartphones. It is being trialled in some areas and will become available all over France in 2025. Not sure at what point it might become compulsory. That wasn't mentioned although the suggestion in the trial areas was that you did not ditch your card.

It's inevitable that a Smartphone will become almost a necessity but with so many older, non-smartphone people still in the system, they'll have to keep a user-friendly system as well. It's not unlike tax forms being on-line - not everyone can cope.

As an aside, OH and I are both members of the SNSM (Sauveteurs en Mer) and they've been trying to put things onto Smartphones for months and it's a shambles. That said, they don't have quote the financial resources of the Ministère de Santé !

As another aside, I've been getting reminders that my CV hasn't been updated for a year. The email looked genuine enough but as I'd already done it recently, I binned the email. They were coming up as Spam in my in-box rather than in the Spam box ... but then some genuine stuff sometimes goes straight to the Spam box

I have been researching digital cameras recently. Trying to come up with a shortlist to try to find a secondhand one that meets my requirements. Very difficult wading through all the specs that mean very little and the sales BS intended to befuddle the easily influenced. One looked promising until I learned that it was set up to either upload to "the cloud", or send to a smartphone. No usb cable option.

They trialled it our area months ago. If you don’t have a carte vitale with a picture or a French identity card (it can’t hack a CDSJ) to scan in then forget it. It didn’t work.

The idea is ok by me but the software is shite so I’ll wait a year.

Sony or Nikon:
Must have- auto focus, image stabilisation, USB connectivity that works with Windows 7
Would like- built-in flash
Don't need- Video or sound, Bluetooth, more than 20mp res., or gps tagging

You don't need USB cable connectivity. You can take the memory card out of the camera, plug it into a USB card reader and plug that into a USB port on your computer.

That's exactly what I do from my camera to my computer. Works a treat and far quicker than by cable.

Hotrodder - have you tried Le Bon Coin ?

I guess all the digital ones will have removable cards to facilitate that. It wasn't mentioned as a feature so I missed it. They seem to make out that wifi & bluetooth are a big deal.

LeConCoin and Fartbook are both non-starters for me. Language, distance, and privacy issues.
