Gall bladder removal

Has anyone had this done, in particular by open surgery rather than keyhole?

Mine was removed 5 days ago. I'm eating a pretty normal diet ( well as far as hospital food goes), but let's talk about gaz (not propane or butaine)

It's not happening for me, my whole abdominal area is completely bloated and uncomfortable, I wish I did have gaz. I keep going for walks which they suggest. I can't find a quiet corner to try and let one go, but even so it's just not coming.

Now they're talking about putting in a nasal gastric tube to relieve pressure from my stomach. I've said no I dont want this.

Has anyone else experienced these problems and if so what helped?

I had my gall bladder removed about 4 years ago by keyhole surgery with no after effects at all. MOTM2 were you admitted as an emergency ?

To be honest, it's almost 50 years ago since. I know I had a huge gallstone out and I think the gall bladder too. It was done by open surgery and an incision of about 6". I don't remember gas, but certainly constipation.

I had mine removed about 30+ years ago after agonising gall stones. In hospital after surgery I was in agony with wind and max. morphine didn't relieve it. A chap in his seventies in the next bed had his done the same day and was fine. It did dissipate but the drive home, wife driving, was agony over every little bump. Hopefully yours will go too.

Not not an emergency, elective because of an enlarged, inflamed gall bladder and they don't know why.
So everything sent for analyses, including a biopsy of the liver.

Not that this is particularly relevant, but I was taken to the urgences with intense pain. At first they thought it might have been a cardiac problem but ECG was fine and it was an x-ray/scan (I can't remember which) that revealed it was the gall bladder. No surprise because it had been grumbling for years. I had to go onto an almost fat-free, no alcohol, no caffeine diet for 6 weeks so that they could operate "cold". It changed my regime forever, I eat far less fat, and drink very little alcohol and caffeine. That said, I was assured at the time I'd be able to eat "normally" as the liver could cope with the loss of the gall bladder.

I think the wind problem is not unusual after non-keyhole surgery. I had pain in my shoulder (!) after having my appendix out and was told it was wind !

Hope the test go okay for you MOTM2 and that they fnd the reason for your problem. Fingers crossed.

I had mine removed by keyhole. I went home the same day. No after effects and no change to diet

Because of previous abdominal surgeries-yes there have been many- they couldn't do it keyhole. There isn't much left of me to be taken.

Shoulder pain is not uncommon following some abdominal and gynae procedures and problems in those areas due to refered pain and in fact left or right can have different causes
While it sounds unpleasant I would think about having the NG tube it will relieve a lot of the discomfort and I doubt they will let you home until things are moving anyway

MOTM, hope your gas problem is soon sorted - it sounds so uncomfortable.
