What Kindle is best?

I have used an e-reader since 2002. The first was a French unit called Bookeen, who make a brilliant tablet/scriber/e-reader today at mere €400. My unit was a lot more basic and of less cost. I am now on my second Amazon unit, a paperwhite (21) which is perfect for reading in different lighting situations and very lightweight when reading in bed. Our bibliotheek and hallways are packed to the ceiling (about 80m of shelves) with real books in many languages, so the e-reader is a travel and bedtime read.

My mistake, my bookeen cybook is a gen 3 unit and I had it in 2007 not 2002. I dug it out of the attic and charged it up, now I have a bunch of books I can read again. The bookeen came out just before the Amazon kindle and before that I was also looking at the Sony e-reader, but it was quite expensive.

What is the difference between an Amazon Kindle and a Paperwhite and why is there a £50 difference in price, svp? I have read the reviews but wondered what experience people have, svp.

I think the paperwhite has a 'paper like' slightly illuminated background which means you can read it without a light (if I remember the background on the ordinary kindle is more grey). It's a while since I bought mine but I seem to remember them saying it was also better in strong sunlight (ie while on the beach or some similar marketing description)

I swapped from an ordinary kindle to a paperwhite a few years ago and think it is definitely better and easier to read.
