What Kindle is best?

#1 Post by sparkyjo »

I have finally filled almost every room in the house with my books and so a kindle might prove useful/necessary now. I've looked on Amazon, but the choice is ridiculous. I'm also unsure about kindle unlimited. Has anyone else made the switch and if so, any advice please.

I made the move years ago and now read kindle unlimited books every day. I can choose my books and as an avid reader unlimited suits me to enhance other authors or topics I choose. (I can complete a book a day in winter once I’ve done my dog walk and chores). Most of my books have now been sent to a local charity so I hope they’ve benefited.

As for choice - I’d go for a middle of the road, unless you need the facilities of a top of the range. I’m sure other kindle users will offer other advice.

I agree with Chappers - middle of the road.
I've got a Paperwhite I've had for a few years and I'm very happy with it. They've gone up in price considerably today ... When trying to choose something, I generally look at the reviews, see which ones get the stars, plusses and minuses, and then the price. If it's simply for reading, I can't see the point of colour.
Definitely worth having a cover for it.

Keep an eye out for Black Friday deals although that’s probably why they have gone up today
I find kindle unlimited worth it as well and have discovered some excellent authors via it

There is one at about £100 at present which seems OK.

If you've got a tablet just download the Kindle app.
I also have the app on my phone where it's great when I'm waiting in doctors & can read a synchronized book.

I used to have a kindle, but for the last 6 years or so I’ve used the kindle app on my ipad, great at home as well as when travelling, to check on transport, move money around, read emails etc too.

I now have nearly as many books on my ipad as I had on my shelves, many hundreds - most of my books have now gone to charity shops, like Chappers51; deterioration of my eyesight meant I mostly couldn’t read them.

The only thing I found better on my kindle was the lack of glare on the screen when using it outdoors, but as I prefer to be in good shade, it has never been a problem.

Paperwhite is great - using the kindle app on an ipad or tablet makes it MUCH harder to read in sunlight.

I have about 1000 books on my kindle, not all downloaded but available when I want them.

I find kindle unlimited a bit limited (!) in its choice & prefer to wait for the books I want to drop in price which happens sooner or later. I add them to my wish list and check it regularly.

Many older books are free as they are out of the time limit for copyright.

I also check in to see the daily deals, usually 6-8 books reduced to 99p & also scan monthly deals.

I read about 100 books a year & since I've lived in France (3 years) have used kindle almost exclusively.
