Monitor Calibration

Well, finally I got round to using it. The first job was to find a USB extension lead as the supplied one was too short - never a good start!

My thoughts - it was obvious that the monitors were different when displaying a window across two monitors - hence the start of this thread. The centre monitor seemed worst (but was it?).

Calibration is a two-stage process. First setting the correct brightness relative to the ambient lighting. All three monitors were too bright and had to be turned down from the default 75%. The centre down to 66% and the other two to 58%.

Then it does the colours - a couple of minutes flashing multiple colours at the sensor whilst holding the sensor up against the centre of the monitor throughout. Then a new profile is created and applied to that monitor in the Windows (11) OS - and you can see it under System -> Display.

Does it work - well a document spanning two monitors appears the same across the displays unlike before. But as for whether the colour displayed is the colour of real life - who knows?

The next step is to try it on the old Linux system - though those monitors seem to be less inaccurate with respect to each other.

I don't know if this is the same thing but since having a macOS Big Sur upgrade I now get this message flash up on the screen before disappearing: Increase Display Contrast On

I don't know - but you can calibrate a Mac monitor as well.

My initial issue was the colour was different on each monitor. However, there is a secondary issue that applies both to my multi-monitor setup and a single monitor setup - namely whether the colours displayed are "correct" in so far as they can be correct.
