Can you explain the presence of the castor wheels on the nudge bars front and rear? The bars themselves serve very little purpose. I've seen dozens of Minis fitted with them in Paris years ago, mostly mashed flat by Parisian parking methods.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Indeed, not exactly what Alec Issigonis had in mind.

@ Hotrodder, I asked the "British Classic Car Garage" here in Amsterdam, where I bought my Rover 2000 TC in the mid seventies. This is the answer I received a few minutes ago, quote:

« Here in the Netherlands, we have been calling these bumpers/bumper guards “Parisian bumpers” for 40 years because of the aggressive way people park there. The wheels have no function as wheels but serve as impact blocks. The intention is that collisions when parking cause less damage to the Mini, but in practice this is not the case, the boot lid is damaged. As soon as these things are fitted damage also occurs immediately to the front and the chrome strip on the bonnet when fitting them...

In short: just a statement or decoration indeed. »

Even forty or fifty years ago, those special Parisian bumpers for the Mini must have been something very special.

I searched high and low on the internet, but even on second-hand sites I couldn't find them anywhere.

So as not to return home completely empty-handed, I came across a nice compilation of videos of another classic from that period, the 2CV. From Louis de Funes to James Bond. I suppose I have gradually become too accustomed to contemporary special effects. What I remember about those films is that they made me laugh more at the time, and yet I was still impressed by the daring driving.

Trouvailles from another shoebox photo archive, sometimes chilly but always sunny weeks in New York, February 1997. Two pictures, made with a classic little Olympus XA4 camera. Not really classic cars, but impressive.
