Pavel Durov, founder of E2E encrypted messenger Telegram has been arrested in France - apparently because Telegram has been used by terrorists and other bad people.

Yet another government that does not understand that as it is encrypted he has no way of know what is in a message - and you cannot repeal the laws of mathematics.

Maybe the likes of Facebook, Signal, X and the other messengers need to reassess whether they need to withdraw from the French market to protect themselves. I hope they do - see how the electorate responds.

Breaking encryption is not rocket science these days. 8-)
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

You're right - with a big enough computer and a few years to spare it is crackable.

It is alleged the Chinese are saving all the encrypted messages in readiness for the arrival of quantum computers that can speed up the process.

They were using a phone called EncroChat that was specially designed and they were told was secure. It wasn't once the Police found the controlling servers and rather than taking them down instead monitored them.

EncroChat broke one of the first laws of encryption - don't write your own!

Most of the more legitimate ones like Signal have had their source code reviewed for flaws - had the crims stuck to that (or Telegram) then they would not have been caught so easily.

There’s talk that he is heavily involved with Russia and there’s a bit of a panic going on over there

It seems the issue, for now, is the public group chats not being moderated - not the E2E encryption.

Watch out Elon!

I wonder if Skripal was involved in any of this.
Musk is as disposable as any one else if they step out of line.
