Good fortune

#1 Post by Niftyons »

I have just been outside to empty the rubbish at a disposal point neat the flat that I am on vacation at in Spain. I made to return to the flat. After a a few seconds I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to find a guy wearing sunglasses offering a €20 note to me.
I suspected that I was the target of some sort of scam and told him that I did not want it.
He told me that I had dropped it while I was emptying the rubbish. I don’t know how it happened as normally I keep banknotes in my wallet. I shall try to be even more careful in the future.

Did you get out your wallet to check it ?

Have you still got it, has it got the right amount in it, if you can remember, or is anything else missing ?

I watched a group of gipsy ladies in Palma de Mallorca pick someone's pockets right by my car, using the old carnation distraction trick.
I didn't say anything, as the ladies were neighbours to our business premises, and it wasn't worth the risk.

No. I took the note from him and put it in my pocket.

I had a bit of a conversation with the bloke. He told me that he designed websites.
It was not a scam as far as I can tell. Just my good fortune that the guy was so honest.

When I got back to the apartment I put the note in my wallet which was in the apartment.
I think that I must have put the note in my pocket the day before and forgot about it. So far as I recall I had no reason to get anything from my pockets, unless, I had the need of a handkerchief.
