That's the trouble! I could mention it to the Mairie, but without a good description of the car (a car that looked too small to get a dead animal in anyway!), they would probably just shrug and raise their eyebrows. I have vague recollection of this happening a while ago - late at night, and me wondering what (or who!) I'd find dead in our field the next day! It used to be peaceful here at nights .....!

We couldn't see the moon either these last two nights due to rain and cloud cover.

Bayleaf, I remember calling the Gendarmes when a man with a rifle was on our property shooting. He also had a big jug - of something - thrown over his back. From his movements, I doubt it was water. I had kids playing in the yard at the time and a dog. I had to hurry them in the house. The guy was within 100 feet of the kids (this was before we closed the property with walls/fence).

The reaction of the Gendarmes was, I guess as excepted - 'eh alors ...' Needless to say, I never called them again. However, my farmer neighbor would go out each time these yahoos would appear to run them off.

A few years ago we had some lampers near us. I called the guard de chasse and they came out. They’d been after the culprits for some time.
I think the result was their permits and guns were confiscated for a couple of years.

Didn't notice any beavers around here. Maybe the hunters got 'em all.
