As Blaze and Pathca said, a harmless joke is OK but as long as you show them respect and remember who they are.

And don't try cracking any remarks with a US customs officer at the airport.
"Good afternoon, welcome to the United States. Are you carrying any drugs or weapons?"
"Only a pound of coke and an M16."
Only a matter of seconds before you are on the floor with a boot in your back surrounded by drawn weapons and a lot of shouting.

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Bit like Immigration officials in Australia asking if you have a Criminal Record.Hotrodder wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 5:35 pm And don't try cracking any remarks with a US customs officer at the airport.

Re: Memories - or lack of
To a point before I was abt. three, describing before that is all rather amorphous and it gets difficult to order things, certain pictures can help one determine if it is a true memory.
I have a load of family photos and documents dating back more than a hundred and fifty years, not that I am that old, there is one of my grandfather apparently finishing rebuilding the garden wall that I can remember lying horizontally on the ground, I know the date that he died, therefore I know it to be a true memory. I can remember sitting on his knee while he amused me by making paper tubes from a tightly rolled strip of paper from the Racing Post, the problem with that memory is that it is not datable, and, it could be just my imagination…
I want to know why the wall was lying on the ground.

Re: Memories - or lack of
It was a very long time ago. I never thought about it until I started discovering more about my grandfather. I thought that the wind had blown it over, but somebody else suggested that they thought it was probably pushed over. I later discover that my gf and his brothers were builders after WWI. GF seemed to have become influential, I found a letter written by my late uncle implied that he was a black marketeer and met a few dodgey people, including the owner on the local newspaper. It was only when I read in the local paper of another town that I discovered that his brothers were involved in lots fights of when home on leave from the war. One can only speculate as to why this story was not published more locally, and why gf’s family seem to win more prizes in competitions that were run by the local paper than the law of averages would predict.
Then I discovered a photograph of somebody looking for all the world like Al Capone who used to be chauffeured around in an American car just after the second ww.
I later discovered that it was my grandfather.
