Christmas ads

@Blaze Same here only my old fake was only about 15 years old. It was quite large too large in fact so asked our local retraite if they would like it and within an hour someone collected it. My 2 year old one was from Jardiland quite real looking but a b**ger to hang baubles on. It's been the two of us for Christmas for some years now and we prefer it that way.

@niemeyjt We have bought all of our gifts on-line ie Amazon.fr, Ikea, M&S.fr and I got his record deck from Retrofutur Paris - I was a bit unsure who I was buying from as I'd never heard of them but the service & delivery was 1st class. I've also bought him a solar powered watch cos we both have had several watches broken when taken to have the battery changed and when I saw solar powered I thought why not give it a whirl 8-)

I'm already tired of the adverts - old perfume ones from previous years seem to be every other one. If I'm actually watching a channel with ads, I'm still at the "Oh f*** off, it's not December yet!"

Not a Christmas Ad, but saw one of those long ads yesterday that go on and on - "only available at blabla stores". This was a three-way mirror that you could hang on any door, see each side of your face/head, even had an extendable arm so suitable for all heights.

Called, wait for it, "Back View Mirror". Now, maybe it's me, but OH and I hooted saying that just sounds wrong!!

At the moment you are inundated with adds, especially a three letter companies tat, Mr Mills had a good think about what to call it then  We don't "do" Christmas, having started shift work at the age of eighteen, I missed so many occasions, never got back into the grove for them, or I could be just a miserable tight old fart, some will agree to that

Being a non religionist I have never seen the attraction of Christmas since the children grew out of such things. We politely send Nouvelle Annnee cards to those that send to us and display the incomings on a piece of string on the door. They stay there all year round and (he says glancing up ;) ) we will be taking them down in a month or so to check our purchases for this year.

The bottom fell out of it for me when the expectations were a bit more than an apple, orange and a bag of nuts. The word Apple sometimes appears but then it turns in to a 1000 euro phone, commercialisation at it's finest

We don't have UK TV and haven't noticed French TV being swamped with Christmas ads ... yet. But we always turn the sound off when the ads come on, get up and make a cup of tea, go to the ... wherever ....
When the ads come on I get up and go to the PC at the other end of the room and usually have time to complete a game of solitaire by the time the ads are finished. As you say, its a bit of exercise if nothing else.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

We don't watch much tv and tend to record stuff to watch when it's convenient to us - which means we can skip the ads. 8-)
