I knew we were in for trouble, and then along came @sparkyjo

So it is is me you are talking to, the answer is yes, down to 2 lengths now to avoid the brain freeze but it is so refreshing and I really look forward to it, morning and evening. Water temp has gone up a bit today to 12c, for the last week or so, 11c. But it feels no more of a shock getting in than it did at over 20c in July.

Which reminds me @Sparkle are you still on Fahrenheit, I have no idea what 60 is anymore? I do hope so, 60c is well on the way to boiling.

The wood will replace the electricity as far as possible. We are very fortunate, 3 cordes from a local supplier (4 cu.m. per corde). He also split the logs with his tractor driven splitter we had from a tree our forester had felled and left as 50cm logs. 480 euros all in. So won't be short this year!

Unfortunately, we're now down to one dog only; the little teckel Frodo we adopted almost 10 years ago. Blaze gave way to old age last year and one day in December when he collapsed, it was clear he would never get up again, so we helped him on his way. We certainly miss him and his brother Blitz.

The horses are well thanks. One now 33 and the 'baby' now 24! Biggles is Biggles and soldiering on - he's currently walking Frodo before we feed all the animals and have dinner.

I don't think I could immerse myself in water at 12C to save my life .........

Yes, sorry Veem, I remember now about Blaze, but had a feeling you had another, younger, sibling for Frodo. I would offer you the little Noubia, she is in foster here, but she is growing on us. And, at 9 years of age, might be just a tad too young and lively.

The worst part of cold water swimming is the walking up the path to the pond with very little on, once in it is great and, out again, an even better feeling. I feel refreshed, and toasty.

Wow! That was a good deal! We're paying about 200€ for a corde (4m3) - mainly oak of one metre long. Thankfully, son and I enjoy chainsawing it up ....

I've heard it said before that a corde of firewood can be 4m3 but around here it's 3m3 with a stere being 1m3, ie 3 stere per corde, which is the same as Wiki gives.
Probably a regional thing but strange it should vary.
I have my own trees so fell & cut my own wood but I know the going rate last season was about 200-230 euros per 'Breton' corde of 3m3.

Yes, I've seen it as three or four. So I asked our new supplier which it is in these 'ere parts - basically 50€/stére/m3. We also have a lot of fallen branches etc. around our fields, so time to get busy and tidy up, as well as provide valuable heating!

Yes,great deal! It is in metre lengths and I chainsaw it into 50cm logs. The benefits of living in a small, friendly, agricultural commune.
