Passport stamping

#1 Post by hughnique »

Having just returned from a far from pleasant trip to the UK, at Dover we had our UK passports stamped by whoever was in the booth, a friend has told us that they should not have been stamped as that is a sign that we have only 90 days in France. We are both French residents with current CDS's

Don't worry about it hughnique.
Your passport may be stamped on entry and exit. This will not affect your rights in the country or countries where you live or work. If a passport is stamped, the stamp is considered null and void when you can show evidence of lawful residence.

Did you show CdS at same time as passport to PAF agent?

I once had same - a dippy PAF at Eurotunnel who didn't understand a Swiss TdS - on next exit via Geneva airport I explained to Swiss border guard who simply put two diagonal bars through top left of the stamp and made a derogatory comment about PAF.

Thanks Char does that mean we will have enquiries made or nothing more will be heard, when we exited France via Calais the French official was adamant on seeing our CDS

Nothing more will be heard - just keep CdS with passport and show both to PAF next time.

UK Border Farce will only want to see passport.

My husband's had his stamped several times and we've never heard anything from anyone.
No point in trying to argue your case with passport control, the only pleasure they probably get out of life is stamping passports, and they might decide to get awkward and delay you by getting a custom check done which takes ages if you're travelling by car.

Had mine stamped at Calais last October....didn't notice it until 6 months later! Nothing on the return trip. Travelled again this February Calais/Dover & back again....no stamps.

The next bit of fun will be educating Eurotunnel and co that EES/ETIAS don't apply if you have a CdS or TdS and letting you skip the fingerprinting queues.
