As much as I am not much of a football fan the recent Ladies Euro matches have been somewhat watchable, and I must admit the passing of the ball is rather better than most of their male counterparts. So last night Spain v Germany, I had to do a second take at one of the German ladies teams name, "Minge", I was gagging for her to get possession of the ball, so as I could hear a pronunciation, and it came, it was announced or pronounced as "Minger", well it goes from good to bad, sorry if my sense of humour upsets any of the Audrey Forbes Hamilton brigade.

Women’s football is enjoyable - I hope it doesn’t deteriorate as men’s football has.

I used to very much enjoy men’s football but much less so now - as pay has gone up standards of behaviour have changed IMO. Or it it my age?

For those that didn't watch the match and hear the pronuciation was it as in ginger or as in singer?

The letter G is usually 'hard' in German so the name Minge is as in singer whereas the English slang word minge is spoken as in fringe.

Exactly, Beejay. But if you take the German pronunciation and say Minge in Scotland, it's not exactly complimentary !!

What I heard was "minger" as in "singer", I agree Polly, the ludicrous sums some of these players command is ridiculous, million of pounds nowadays, and probably some smartarse financial adviser has a way around the tax question. I only said to OH it makes a change to see a match where no one is gobbing every five minutes, but that was shattered a few times during the match.

We have been watching the ladies footie for a while. When it first got televised, it wasn’t very good technically, but there was lots of footy and very little drama(clutching faces, rolling around on the floor etc). Sadly the drama has arrived in this tournament in the form of faux injuries to gain advantage. It’s such a shame. I think the goal keepers have on the whole been exceptional. Some of the defending has been appalling and no team seems capable of a taking a penalty properly.
And they all seem to swear in English.

Exceptional goalkeepers? Well I only saw the goal highlights for the semi final and the Italian keeper was pathetic and gifted the equaliser and winner to England.
