After ten years back in Amsterdam, the tall ships, not the Russians this time, and many others. From 20 to 24 August they will gather again in the old harbours of Amsterdam. Back to Sail 2015 with several snapshots.

Don't get me started. Your post reminded me...........
Back in 1994 I was rebuilding my DeGroot for the big adventure and the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race visited Weymouth. What a spectacle! It served to feed my enthusiasm as well as my respect for the shipwrights of old.

Sailing is the only thing what ever came close to my love of two and four wheels.

My sweet childhood dreams were made of this, being a real captain, commander in chief, free as a bird. On a ship called 'Vrijheid' (Freedom).

The first boat shown in your photos looks like the Etoile du Roi based at Saint-Malo !

That Norwegian Prima really is a floating block of flats - there doesn't seem to be any sort of outside decking. There's certainly no privacy on the tiny balconies. Quel horreur !

I completely agree with you. By the way, at first glance the Queen Victoria seems to have a somewhat classic design, but when you walk past her on the quay you quickly change your mind.

My first experience of ocean travel was at the age of 13, an Atlantic crossing in the original RMS Queen Mary. Jaw dropping I have to say. First class New York to Southampton (due to a booking error) and Tourist class for the return. Both were simply amazing. Seven years later, L.A. to Southampton via Panama Canal on the Oriana. Not so impressed by the ship but the journey and the various stops were unforgettable. I don't think they have improved on the 1930s luxury in modern ships. They have simply become much larger and more than a little "tacky". Just an opinion.
