French Hotels Dirty?
We have just come back from a grand tour, we have been staying in French hotels varying in price from 200€ a night to over 400€ per night a mix of newish large ones and some older smaller ones, virtually all of them had separate toilet and bathrooms, however only one Hotel had a sink in the toilet area, so the rest, after doing your ablutions, you have to open the door, walk into the bedroom open another door and then wash your hands, I personally find this disgusting, and it will be the last time we stay in a hotel, people may have different views on hygiene, having been in the medical sector for many years its very important to myself and family.

We've rarely come across a hotel with separate loo and bathroom. We always use B&B hotel for quick overnight stops. Excellent value and because the rooms are small, there is no question of a separate loo.
If you arrive at your hotel and find the facilities are separate, it's easy enough to put hand gel or a pair of vinyl gloves in your pocket
As we work on the edge of the medical world, we automatically have these handy.

We don't use hotels much these days,but if a hotel was new to us we always asked to see the room first.

We were having a meal in an Italian resto here on the coast and the toilets were near the entrance opposite our table. We saw one of the chefs walk through the tables to use the loo. Later I had occasion to do so myself and found there was no basin anywhere. I'll leave you to decide if we ever ate there again.

While I was working, I had occasion to use a lot of hotels, France, EU, UK and occasionally near and middle East.
I don't recall a single one with separate toilet and basin.
The selection ran from modern 4* through to rather old 2* (do they do 1*?) with pretty much every combination in between.
The same applied to the few hotels we used while holidaying which were largely part of one of the large chain groups* and principally used for an overnight en route to our destination.
* Campanile, Accor, and others.
I don't recall a single one with separate toilet and basin.
