Passport question again

#1 Post by hughnique »

I know it's been broached several times before but it is getting a bit confusing to an old non technical. Evidently the photos produced by a French photo booth are likely to be rejected, and the "code" they issue with the images is not usable to the UK passport office. From what I could make out you can still submit these photos with a paper renewal application, but as said they are somewhat likely to be refused. That now leaves us with the online application, using a smartphone to produce the required images, now I am getting acquainted with the Samsung Galaxy, it is becoming less of a faff. Plain background, head shoulders and upper body, but how many photos do you have to submit with the online application, I know the booths generally kick out four at a time, and normally you only use two, but am I correct in thinking that one photo is sufficient for the online application. TIA

One's sufficient if I remember correctly.
When the AI thing has rejected a few attempts do what I did & tell it " this photo is better than the one in the PP it's to replace so what's your problem?. Perhaps you should ask a human".
Worked for me & Mme's replacements.

Photo booths in the UK can now include a code for several countries. Photographic shops have provided the code for Ireland for many years.

Power to the people. Take back control. I had to engage with these accursed chat bots for weeks recently to get some action from Nordnet.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Passport question again

#5 Post by Chappers51 »

3 weeks ago I went to my local photographer and queried whether a code would work, as I’d read that it wouldn’t.

Photos taken at 9.30, armed with my 4 photos and code I returned home, completed the form, using the code and it was acknowledged as received by 10.40.

It was more hassle to return my old passport but even that was done in a local post office before midday (my local bureau de poste didn’t have a clue).

2 weeks later (last Friday) my new passport arrived and on Monday of this week my old one was returned.

Yes the photos and code cost me 15€, but I felt it was worth it.

I decided to circumvent the possibility of a photo booth disaster and opted for a friend, yes I have a couple left, taking a piccy with my smartphone, so prepared a "studio" in the gite, nice magnolia walls to assist clarity. Downloaded mine first on the on line application, and was told it was "poor", and would likely be refused, something about either to light or to dark??, either one or the other, I then took a leaf out of LAF's book and said I would be submitting it as it was better than the one in the PP. My 35 year old wife then submitted hers and was informed it was fair, so again submitted and with the same comment. Up to la Poste last week and sent them off, two different addresses, three days later mine was acknowledged as being received and was about to be processed, Wifey's wasn't on the system so a couple of days later rung them and they confirmed they had not received hers, then she starts panicking. It must have been a maximum of one minute before she received a mail from the PP office saying they had indeed, received it. Now they are wending their way back here with the original photos passing muster, all in all, apart from the cost no complaints at all.

Different story with OH's, hers was quoted as being printed last Friday since when she has heard nothing, so panic mode has been empowered again

As if by magic it has arrived, find something else to worry about now.
