Flying visit to Saint Emilion and Pomerol yesterday - the sky was incredible.

Ah, by "original", do you mean straight off camera ? A lot of people proudly state that their photo is "straight from the camera, untouched up" when they clearly have not done any in-camera adjustments like contrast, brightness etc (that's assuming they've go something more than a pinhole camera or a box Brownie !) As a result, the photo isn't a patch on what it could have been !! Not a criticism of anyone's photos, just fact.
So if a photo comes off the camera but looks uninteresting, with low light and little contrast, it's easy to give it a lift - it doesn't spoil it, but can enhance and improve.
That said, I couldn't say whether OBR's shots are "tarted up" - they're very nice as they are

I really enjoy the process of " tarting up " pictures - sometimes it works other times the original is far better. Here are the original pictures - I know what l prefer

I think the originals are more representative of what is normal but the 'tarted up' piccies are more pleasing to the eye & more resemble artists interpretations, witness the brilliant blue skies & slightly unnatural colours of other things.
Both are good & have their place. The framing & shooting of the originals takes some skill & manipulation of the others presumably takes a good computer programme & operator.
Whether 'tarted up' piccies should be declared as such is up to others to decide although, nice as they are, to this happy snapper, it's pretty obvious that they've been altered.
