Certainly the curse struck us, our Doberman decided it would be a good idea to chase one of the cats, don't have a clue why, she usually gives them a wide berth. She ends up on the gravel drive having slipped, fell or whatever, with her back legs underneath her and can't stand, managed to get her in the car and to the vets where she was put on a stretcher and straight in to x ray. Nothing much revealed by that except that as we knew she has arthritis, but nothing broken or out of place, but still cannot stand. She was left there overnight, suggestions of a CT scan were suggested, but when that can take place is unknown at the moment. Evidently they were going to give her morphine for the pain, but she didn't seem to have any when lifted in or out of the car. We both predict this is not going to be a happy conclusion, she is 10 years old, does have severe arthritis, and we will not see her in any pain, we both love that dog to bits, we are absolutely gutted, why is life so shit at times.

Unfortunately I can't see it, I think something in her spinal cord has gone, but we can hope.

We've just been there @hughnique, it's never easy ..... We've never allowed any of our dogs/cats to suffer just because we couldn't bear to part with them. The hardest part is making that awful decision, even though we do it to avoid or stop them suffering.

Evidently she has a herniated disc or something, we picked her up dinnertime as I think she was making so much of a noise, once she saw us it stopped. Painkillers and the vet will ring Monday to see if any progress, she can now use one back leg but the other is dragging and you have to give her support with a towel round her stomach, bit of an improvement on yesterday though. I was informed she might need a CT scan and possibly surgery, cost, around 5K€, lets see what Monday brings, but can't take a lot of seeing her like this, and as said not much of a life if it doesn't improve.

Have you considered Vetref in Angers (a bit like Super vet Noel Fitzpatrick) ? Not cheap but they're brilliant. Otherwise I think Nantes has a very good vet school.
