Covid cases rising ...

#1 Post by Blaze »

We no longer have to wear masks in medical establishments though some patients and medical staff continue to wear them. We were in a waiting room a couple of days ago with a little girl who had a horrible cold - we kept our masks on ....
I don't know whether people still have to have a negative test before a hospital admission - our centre has closed and it's the labs or medical folk doing them now.
I glanced at Covid Tracker today - when I last looked, 2 or 3 weeks ago, the entire country was green, meaning there were few cases. The picture today is quite different :

Just yesterday I heard from a friend’s that his wife was rushed to hospital with Covid on Sunday and is now in ICU. It is still dangerous for the vulnerable

I noticed the uptick too. I use this site which is always lagging a few days behind on the national map.

Yesterday's case number was considerably higher than previous days. It is definitely rising.

Map as of 18 march shows several departments in Orange.

The recorded case rates remain relatively low still at "only" 5.5k per day - with of course the caveat that the level of testing is quite restricted. This compares with 80k+ back at the end of last year.

However the message that it is still with us and can cause serious problems for some should not be forgotten.

@Blaze I
I had to be tested when I was in hospital for a couple of days in February so presumably that still applies.

A friend phoned from Kent yesterday and she told us that cases there are rising fast, saying just getting over it once again.
Never see it on the UK news though.

It's dropped off the plot here too with other things taking the headlines.
We were with OH's doc this morning and he just shrugged his shoulders and said that nowadays for most people it wasn't very different to having a cold or flu.
That said, those who are vulnerable could be hit far harder .... Let's hope that things improve with the spring/summer and finer weather to get people out.

It would be interesting to see a comparison of the number of hospitalisations for flu vs those for covid
