Drop in for a natter about anything French related.The road is not very wide with narrow verges/ditches with the consequence that the signs,some of which project to the edge of the road, are frequently hit by the increasingly larger agricultural vehicles using the road knocking them off their posts where they remain on the verges for sometimes weeks.
Recently I wrote to the local council suggesting that perhaps they could consider making the signs read vertically to avoid this problem & mentioned that I am constantly re-fixing the sign opposite our property.
The council replied saying "we have received your request, I would like to inform you that if permanent road signs are damaged, please inform the town hall or the technical services.
We will do our best to repair them as quickly as possible. Do not proceed to their repairs or replacements youself.
The road to xxxxxxx is quite narrow and the agricultural vehicles are more and more voluminous. The signs recently put up are small and regulatory in relation to the road."
My reply was on the lines that "I thought I was was helping the authority by replacing the signs as it's obvious that judging by the length of time the signs remain displaced either your dept. is either dilatory in replacing the signs in a reasonable time or other residents/road users are not reporting the damage. In either case I have reported the problem & you have rebuffed my help so I'll just do what others seem to do & ignore the problem"
I've just driven into town & noticed two signs on the deck which prompted this post. If our road is anything to go by the cost of refixing or replacing damaged signs must be a fair bit each year but apparently that's OK.
