I was walking down the street and what did I see? Pretty Jaguar I couldn't help but see:















French license plate, someone from Paris (75) in la France profonde, steering wheel on the right.

Indeed. I owned one once, but sold it after 2 weeks. I bought it at auction and drove it home every day. During that period of my life I never owned a car 'of my own', I picked the best or most interesting from the lot and used it for myself, until it was 'adopted'.

My grandfather had a Daimler Sovereign 4.2 automatic. He traded in a '65 Thunderbird when he discovered it wouldn't fit in the garage of his new house. I missed the power of the T-bird and all the electric goodies fitted as standard but the Daimler had it beat hands down on build quality. So many perfectly fitted and finished parts to be seen everywhere and no moulded plastic. The only thing that let it down was a chronically hopeless heater/demister. If you had more than two people in it on a rainy day you were stuffed. Peering out from whatever bit of window you could clear by hand. I would have thought being built in a country known for crap weather it might have been better.

I must say, the new 500 is the most successful syling wise of all the recent crop of "retro" cars. It captures the spirit of the original so well and even though it is larger the style still works. Compared to the Mini, which completely fails, and I was so looking forward to a modernised 2cv which never really happened the Fiat set the bar very high indeed.

We do. The only thing that could solve so many problems now we are too old to work.

@ Hotrodder, promises, promises. Citroën's intentions were good, don't let me be misunderstood, a new 2CV in 2014. And what did we see? The Cactus...... To forget the image of this ugly child of the 2CV I had a look at a lot of voitures anciennes circulating in the streets of Paris.....
