Feeling highly generous I have decided to treat OH to a new cleaner, Amazon UK have the item at £228, FR is a ridiculous price and so is DE, it says eligible for delivery to France but on the final purchase details the item is reduced to £190 then £16 delivery plus an estimated import duty of £46. still cheaper than DE or FR. I have contacted Amazon UK customer services who inform me that the import charge will be credited back to me once the item has been delivered, has anyone any experience of that being the case, it seems a bit bizarre to me, and they wont send a transcript of the chat to my e-mail.

@hughnique Are you sure that the UK one, all things considered, is all that much cheaper? I have taken a vow of banning everything from that country, apart from Kindle downloads of course. I often, when searching for various goods (recon computer for example), find them on FR then copy and paste to UK to read everything about them in English, checking of course the relative prices, and I rarely find any difference worthy of buying there. Also there is the question of returns, unless you badger them, as I have done in the past, they will never refund the full cost to send items back.

Well £190 looks like the pre-VAT price and £228 with 20% VAT of £38 added.

£16 delivery is as it is.

So £46 looks like French TVA possibly plus some handling ("import"?) charge - not sure why anyone would say you'll get it back - especially as the item was sold VAT-free in the UK - unless they just refer to the £8 (£46-£38) not the entire £46.
