Hypocrisy at it's finest re Migrant Crossings

All we hear about the French side is turfing people out of camps to stop them gathering. From the UK, Patel wanting to pass a Bill that if Border Farce "nudge" boats trying to cross, back to France, and someone dies, be immune from prosecution.

Now both sides produce crocodile tears as if they care. As I saw yesterday "Seeking asyllum is not illegal". But sure, more work must be done to help these obviously very desperate people and catching the traffickers.

Terrible situation, but (I've probably asked this before!), what is the solution?

There'll be no 'one-size-fits-all' solution. 2 countries agreeing measures will inevitably mean a compromise. I really don't know what the solution is, given the strength of pro- and anti- views in EU countries and WorzelLand.

A solution would be to set up stations in France (and probably elsewhere) so that people can apply for refugee status. At the moment near enough the only way to get an asylum claim looked at (unless you are in a refugee camp near a war torn country) is to land on the South coast of England.

Britain's response to refugees has been woeful at best, which is rich with Patel's parents having arrived in the UK as refugees at a time when we were far more sympathetic.

With the Syria crisis, Germany took in around one million refugees. The UK response - 20 odd thousand spread out over 5 years.

We Brits should be ashamed.

Some govt. representative on the news last night wanting a coalition of patrol boats to guard the channel and turn back refugees into French waters. Have they not considered a Boadicea answer? Paddle steamers with swords attached to the paddle wheels?

They are a disgrace as a govt. in supposedly civilised country. Open up proper corridors. Let people apply and this cuts out the dangerous crossings and is a more humanitarian answer

Erm, they're not French migrants, the majority of them are desparate asylum seekers/refugees. They're heading for the UK because they speak English or already have family there. Considering the awful journey these people have already endured, it would be like the French saying the same thing to whichever border they've just crossed (do they?)

As was pointed out, British Govt. could have been part of an ongoing migrant "problem" within the EU, but they chose to distance themselves completely and are now surprised no one wants to help. Add that to the other frictions going on between France and the UK, who the heck does Pfeffle Pig think he is?

There is now a rumour that the latest accident happened as it may have been hit by a container ship (or was it BorderFarce practicing nudging manouvres?). Still people are so desparate (even an Afghan Soldier who fought for the British Army) to keep trying to make that crossing.

As for Priti Useless (who, according to most staff in the HO, is hated throughout, and she hates the employees, and really is as nasty as we all thought - even to her own staff!) I wonder what she really thinks when she looks in the mirror. Or does it crack each time?!

Ridiculous and cruel idea by Johnson. Let's return these people to the squalor of their old camps in France in mid-winter.

A Red Cross representative on the news last night said that 70% of all immigrants who cross by illegal means are ultimately accepted for British Citizenship so why not have proper facilities to allow them to cross and then apply for citizenship.

Not that France would ever agree to BJ's nonsense anyway!
