I'm not sure whether this will interest anyone, but, I see Les Républicains have four possible candidates for the elections which one do you think they'll pick to run?
Philippe Juvin, Eric Ciotti, Michel Barnier or Denis Payre.

Barnier is the only one who can be called a serious candidate; he has been rising in the polls but is nowhere near Le Pen. Last time I looked Xavier Bertrand who is of the Right was also well ahead of him.
Barnier is seen by some as an older, more mature candidate though even if he does become the chosen one I fear that Macron will thrash him.

As a matter of interest, why do you fear that? I know Barnier has been the Brexit strong man; but he seems a little colourless for a president. I shall wait until the last minute before casting my vote (comme d'habitude) but at the moment, I see no problem with EM.

Choosing a deckchair on the Titanic springs to mind....
Your post has usefully reminded me to put the Election dates (10th and 24th April 2022) in my diary, they came up last weekend during discussions about outings with the bike club and who wouldn't be able to attend due to ballot box duty - but I forgot to write them down.

How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

Yes indeed, 'tisn't a job I'd want that's for sure.
I'm not sure how well Barnier would do - not many people who weren't following all the Brexit stuff actually know who he is. My daughter, son-in-law and their friends hadn't heard of him before.

Char, he's been a minister in several govts, including Foreign Minister, so round the block a few times.
Mind you, half the population express zilch interest in politics or in voting.

Yep 'tis bizarre - they moan about EM and hope that he won't get in again, but they're not going to vote because they think it's a waste of time.

Thanks Char.
67-68 Jean-Claude was a folk hero.
Interesting times, mai68, arrived Gare du Nord in Juillet with group of 40+ Americans on their EuroRail grand tour. Spent two days transiting between Nord et Austerlitz to get all the train reservations in order for France and Spain. Three days later departed to San Sebastián.
