The flu vaccine I had from a medical student at the surgery a few weeks ago I didn't feel at all. She made me put the arm concerned on my hip, which I also did yesterday. Perhaps that helps vis-à-vis muscle interaction/contraction.
Yes - agree - the (male) nurse who did first jab was brutal - but the second one was less bad. The flu jab she pinched the muscle but it was worse than previous ones without pinching. However, Wednesday's blood test was as near painless as I have ever had even though she seemed grumpy at having to start work at 7am!

I wonder whether an "all hands to the pump" approach has led to inexperienced nurses doing some of the tasks?

I admit to having a degree of needle phobia so a couple of years ago I asked an ex-nurse friend if she would give me the flu jab. I honestly didn't feel it. She said she thought nurses develop a far better technique than doctors who are called upon to give far fewer jabs. None of the 3 Covid jabs I've had has hurt - the anticipation is worse for me than the real thing.

Our first two covid jabs were given to us by a (very) young Pompier - both times I was still waiting for the jab when they put the little plaster on.

I have a terrible phobia regarding needles when I was younger I had to have a rubella jab when we decided to have children and the dr ended up chasing me around the surgery - he had to get a nurse in to sit on me in the end.  You would have thought a year of cancer treatment would have cured me of it, but it hasn't. It takes me a couple of weeks to pluck up the courage to go and have a blood test every three months.
So I know exactly how you feel, it's just a case of taking a deep breath and switching off for a minute.
Good luck, you'll be fine.

Just don't look and you'll be fine. Jeez It was the length of the needle as she stuck it in the bottle that frit me and for a second I thought FFS but was too embarrassed to do a runner as there were at least another 8-10 people sitting in the room watching so I looked away whilst she did the business and felt...........not a thing :D However, you will not get me anywhere near a dentist 🙀
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

There you go, I have no idea how long the needle was, 'cos I can't even look at them.

I always turn away. And, in advance of seeing the needle.

I have no needle phobia (I've had injections in my eyeball) but I can't look at blood going into those phials during a prise de sang.
From a young age, I had copious nosebleeds which I had to deal with alone as my mother retreated to lie down...

Injections and blood tests are relatively quick as you say.

I have also just "persuaded" the doctor to give me corticosteroid pills (after two months of asking) rather than spend four hours a day for a week hooked up to an IV drip. Friday was a good day.

I have never felt anything while being injected, I don't look at the needle or the operator just straight ahead and relax completely. Even Fran, who is thin as a rake and must receive some of hers directly into the bone  , never flinches. No after effects either. It is years since I had treatment at a dentist, didn't like the needle but needs must.

Some years ago I went into hospital for a prostate op and was told they would give me a lumber puncture first. I was terrified at the thought but felt nothing of it or the op that followed, in spite of being fully awake. During the week that followed I experienced extreme pain and was told that a blood clot had formed and that I would have to go again. This time they told me that I would have a general anaesthetic instead, always my preferred option as I am fatalistic about dying, but I was very disappointed, having 'enjoyed' the lumbar route, I wanted it again. In the event I got the lumbar after all, and got to watch, as they left a monitor in my view, a wonderful 'documentary' of their fiddlings in my interior.

Well I’ve just returned home from having my booster, and as someone who previously hated needles I must say I didn’t feel a thing.
