And now . . .

France tonight suspended a controversial ban on EU-based Britons crossing the channel to return home under tightened Covid rules.

Emmanuel Macron's government said it would show 'tolerance' towards expats transiting through France over the new year as it threatened to spark yet another row with London.

France's interior ministry had earlier stood by its decision to ban UK citizens living in the bloc from entering France, suggesting it was a 'logical step'.

But a spokesman later reversed that position, saying that 'during the year-end holidays' border police will show 'tolerance'.

And I am still waiting for my Swiss PCR test result after 30 hours (great they are only valid 24 hours in France) so may not make it anyhow.

Now, having uploaded everything requested to Eurotunnel (not including my residency permit) I have now been told it has all been processed and I am ready to travel.

Still taking my share of the Amazon Rain Forest - in case.

Does the 24 hour validity start from when you take the test or when you get the results?

Take the test - although for the RAT that is 15 minutes apart.

Previous test to release PCR with Screen4 they put the time of arrival at the lab not the time of sample on my certificate. However this time for the test to release it was the date and time I wrote when the sample was taken. I shall see what they put on the next one . . . when it arrives.

I have some flexibility, I guess, to get another RAT done in France before I enter Switzerland - but would prefer to be able to present a "complete" dossier to the French authorities to show good intent given all the other issues.

Good luck, I’m off to Geneva on January 2nd. PCR test at 8:30 tomorrow morning and then fill in the paperwork. For those that know Geneva airport I will never leave France but have to go through the hoops.

Yes, the French sector is very useful - I always used to avoid the long security queues by going that way - even when officially flying out of the Swiss sector.

Well they let me in.

Actually, it was even easier than the journey to the UK - all the lady in French passport wanted to see was the passport and work permit.

I offered her other documents but she wasn't interested - but then I had already uploaded three documents to Eurotunnel which obviously helped. No need for any vaccination certificates.
