Butterflies have been pretty scare this year but when the sun comes out, they suddenly appear :

They're beautiful OBR. We still haven't got around to planting roses ...it's on the agenda for this autumn/winter ...

@basquesteve that's a cracker - what equipment did you use to take those piccies?

Thank you Char my old so called bridge cameras have given up but their pictures were just as good as long as you had manual focus I am now using a Cannon EOS 100D and a Sigma 105 mm 1:2:8 DG Macro HSM lens its ok but the depth of focus is disappointing and heavy some of my older cheaper cameras could take 3 different focal points shots and merge them instantly

Thank you Char my old so called bridge cameras have given up but their pictures were just as good as long as you had manual focus I am now using a Cannon EOS 100D and a Sigma 105 mm 1:2:8 DG Macro HSM lens its ok but the depth of focus is disappointing and heavy some of my older cheaper cameras could take 3 different focal points shots and merge them instantly

That's a good lens, Steve.
Yep DOF is tricky with macro - I find I have to focus slightly back from the front of the creature to make sure the focus circle catches the greatest possible area - not easy with moving things though.

Speaking as a strictly non-expert observer in this discussion, what is your opinion of, instead of awkward because of movement photos, videos followed by snapshots?

That is how I got my pictures of Mr. Toad, but it is not really a good example because, for convenience, I was using a tiny hand held GoPro and helped by the subject not moving and allowing me to get very close.

But I also have a Nikon which does have a zoom which takes admirable videos from which I extract good snapshots. As my main activity with a camera is recording dogs, as almost all are seeking adoption and therefore needing publicity, I found this was the best way of capturing moving objects and haven't really taken photos for a long time.

I'd never thought about that, I'll give it a try.
