Update on Sherlock

Since the pain episode a week ago, he's been on antibiotics, anti inflammatory and a calming pill.

There was no definitive infection, blood tests and xray showed nothing so the above treatment was a shot in the dark.

A week on and he is much brighter, doesn't appear to have pain when I lift him up - which is no mean feat for a 7.3 k cat laying on the floor - and me being an old fart that doesn't do well at floor level .

Tonight I lifted him onto our bed, he enjoyed his rub under the chin purring very loudly then he proceeded to groom my hair, also something he used to do.

So I think he's on the mend, except he won't lift his tail which drags on the floor, and he won't jump up.

Goodness knows what is wrong, but I'd say he is 70% better.

Poor Sykes is so loveable, but being a bit kept out at the moment, he is adorable.

@manonthemoon2 That is such good news and I'm sure Sykes understands. Our cats are so intelligent it sometimes baffles me.

Just a thought (saw this on SuperVet years ago) but has Sherlock's tail been x-rayed ?
A break, especially the chunky end near the body, can give all the symptoms you mentioned.

I asked the vet if it is possible he could've broken his tail, she said it would've shown up on his previous xrays.

His tail is almost the length of his body and because he can't lift it, he keeps getting pooh stuck to it

Dunno if it's the same but our cat, following an altercation with a vehicle when she was found injured in the road , was left with a front leg she dragged on the ground.
The vet said xrays didn't show anything & thought it was a torn nerve. Puss dragged her leg for a couple of months with it slowly improving until she was back to her old self with no signs of an injury.
The consolation is that now, if she's anywhere near the road & hears a vehicle, she legs it for the sanctuary of home.

@L Austin France ooh that must have been awful for you as well as your cat and you've reminded me of the time when our cat was a kitty - running across the road she ran into the back wheel of a slow moving car. Fortunately we saw it happen. We flew out there as she carried on into my neighbour's garden where we found her frightened and crying. Taken straight to the vet who said she'd dislocated her hip/leg. All healed well but she has always had a bit of a stiff leg and it's more noticeable now she's older particularly when the weather is cold & wet.

It was terrible !
A guy rung our door bell & asked if it was our cat lying in the road.
Poor thing was twitching with blood coming out of it's mouth & eyes.
We wrapped her in a towel, jumped in the car & broke every speed limit en route to our vets who we were phoning to tell them what had happened & that we were on our way with ETA about 5 minutes.
The vets were brilliant & kept her in overnight with us fearing the worst.
The next day the vet's gave her the (almost) all clear & a few months later she was walking normally.
3-4 years on she's daft as a brush & charges everywhere especially now she's got Bob the Mutt to attack.

@L Austin France what a lovely ending - cats are not always so lucky. I can well imagine you fearing the worst especially with the blood - ooh it makes me shudder. I think I'll leave it at that.
