Rover 2000, my, unattainable, dream car back in the day. ;) :D

Spectrum, if you do make it to the Circle, there is/was a plinth marking it near to Bodo and if you could have a quick look round for a little bit of round glass, it is the lens of my Brownie 127, lost there in 1958.

Favourite memories? No contest, the females, sooooo friendly. But then I was only 16.

@ Spectrum, about caravans, think twice. Translated with the help of deepl from another forum, food for thought:

" This year was the first time we went to Norway with our caravan. And to be honest, I was quite worried about it beforehand. I heard that you can end up on steep, narrow, unpaved roads. On a forum about Norway, people wrote that they had to reverse a bit with their caravan or campervan because they met an oncoming car on a stretch that was too narrow. I heard stories of cars with caravans and motorhomes struggling up a steep slope and - when there was finally a parking space - gratefully pulling over to catch their breath and let the whole string of cars behind them pass. And then we had another car with which we had not yet driven the caravan. I felt a bit of a pinch."

Thanks RA we are very experienced caravaners, but the link was interesting, but it was Norway, and just by looking on a map you can see the roads, thats why I think we will stick mainly to the E4 eastern Sweden route, have just realized that the ice hotel is not to far up so lots of winter research needed.

I have been in Norway back in the 60's and later 80's lastly 90's in the Artic circle make sure you have plenty of spare fuel and oil its a bit like South Africa miles of bugger all Norway is steep mountains and cold after September a campervan up graded to deal with snow and ice can easily deal with the roads but a caravan is not ideal

On my school trip in '58 many of the roads were unmade and narrow but with frequent grader machines maintaining them. On one occasion, passing one of these machines, our Austin Cambridge pickup slid off the shoulder into the deep ditch. No damage or injury, we were quickly pulled back onto the road by the grader whose driver obviously carried a suitable chain especially for this purpose.

Well got a route planed out if anyone is interested, after taking advice we will stay in Sweden for the trip, Norway is not in the EU and could cause problems, so truck only and hotels,
Sail overnight from Kiel in Germany to Gothenberg,
drive to Mora 468Klm stay two nights,
up to Storhogna 228Klm stay two nights,
up to Saxnas 412Klm two nights
drive to Jokkmokk 415Klm stay four nights
head South to Umea 426Klm stay four nights,
come down to Sandviken 487Klm stay two nights,
back to Gothenberg 654Klm overnight ferry back to Kiel.

Lots more research but plenty of time, may even do a Blogg, will need our daughters advice on that one . RA a lot of the roads are still the same in Sweden, unpaved is the words they use, so will be taking two spares with us and new all terrain tyres, but have done off roading in Britain and France in the past, so there shouldn't be a problem on dirt roads.

@ Spectrum, with hindsight I think that in 1976 I totally underestimated road conditions in Norway, a nice Rover with summer tyres.....

Sounds great Spectrum about 6500 kms if I was doing it from here, but via 'The Bridge'. Didn't fancy the body on the border eh? (If you haven't seen The Bridge that joke will mean nothing to you. )

Wish I was doing it, but I really would fancy taking in Norway too, is it really that complicated crossing that border? There is a small commune in Norway right on the border which bears my surname, wouldn't be able to resist that. ;)

Whatever you call it when you get back, yes we want to see the account and all the vids/photos. ;) :D
