Hi All, I too have joined following the closure of the other forum. We have a house which we are in the process of "improving" in the Haute-Marne area. Hopefully will be finished by Christmas (not saying which one) so we can then enjoy visiting it without aching quite so much! Won't be moving permanently but spending 50/50 in the UK/France.
Hi ihatewOrk and welcome to the forum.
Good luck with your 'improving'.
Hi,
Just joined and hope from time to time, to be able to contribute something useful, as well as enjoying the tips and wisdom that comes from the experience of other members.
I came to "all things French" quite late in life (mid 50's) and always wonder how and why it evaded me for so long!
I've been an electrician for 40 years and had my qualifications recognised in France when we obtained residency. Both my Wife and I are seasoned "do-er uppers" and the only things that really frighten us are rooves (too old and heavy to fall from those sort of distances!).
Anyway, we bought a french house 6 years ago and completely rewired, replumbed and restored it. Not content with enjoying it, we're in the process of swapping it for a bigger project over the coming months. The "retirement plan" (pause for laughter) is to do this house up, together with the couple of accompanying gites. So, it's relaxation all the way!
I don't know a vast amount but always happy to share what I can.
Discovered France later in life and enjoying every minute!
Electrician 40 years in UK, working on French electrics for last 5.
Bought & renovated French house & swapped it for a much bigger unfinished house.
Sanity? = Highly questionable!
Hi Argos69 and welcome
A lot of us here have been or still are doers uppers. It's often better to start from scratch than take over something that need altering, ripping apart ...! Certainly doing your own wiring/plumbing saves you a fortune, and you can change your mind along the way without upsetting/annoying anyone
Hi Argos69 welcome to the club.
As for what your doing, been there, done that, many times.but then I've been a builder all of my life, have restored four old houses here in France over the years.
Agree with Blaze,
Hello everyone. I'm a refugee from another much loved but now lost forum. Same username so some may know me. I've been meaning to register for weeks but only just got round to it. I look forward to sharing views, and giving and receiving help and advice, with everyone.
