New RN leader to replace Le Pen

""With us, the people of France will always have priority at home and we do not intend to give up on serving our people first," he said.

"We will finally be the friends and the road to recovery that the country needs to ward off 40 years of mistakes, of letting go, of resignation and cowardice.
"

"Brought up in a poor family of Italian origin in the Paris suburbs, Mr Bardella joined the far-right as a teenager and rose quickly to the top of the party, becoming its acting president last year."

Call me old fashioned, but when main politicians are from foreign/immigrant descent, it doesn't usually bode well for those of similar background in the future!

True. He was also asked to comment on the remark "go back to Africa" by RN MP Grégoire de Fournas, directed at a black MP. He said that de Fournas was "basically right".

It's a poor outlook for decent people when so many support such vile creatures.

But doesn't it also reflect badly on the mainstream parties that some feel that RN is the answer to their needs?

Does anyone know whether Fournas is another Putin apologist?

I think history shows that France and Italy are inclined to embrace extreme politics.

They only do so when things are going badly, when their elected governments have failed them. Which is what The French feel at the moment.

I think deeper reporting suggested that the comment was not directed at the black MP, but in response to his question, roughly "what should should happen to the migrants landing in southern Europe by boat"
Not much better perhaps, but not as bad as aiming it at the black MP

Maybe so, Yonner. All the reports I've read show outrage from Left and Centre députés at the slur on a fellow député, rather than a "solution" to the problem.
