Post Office inquiry
Being an ex IT professional I am viewing the inquiry into the Horizon scandal.
Currently ex govt ministers are giving evidence. It amazed me how short their tenure was. Sometimes 6mths and then they are off to a different dept.
An ex sub postmaster and head of their association gave evidence yesterday. He said having an imbalance at the end of the week was common and pre Horizon subpms would often not inform of a shortfall because they may have a surplus the following week. When Horizon was implemented these imbalances were flagged and hence some prosecutions. With Horizon itself creating some imbalances you have the perfect storm.
One other thing occurred to me. All the reports of shortfalls mean there would likely be as many surpluses. It doesn’t seem that any of these were reported by the sun postmasters

The powers-that-be at the Post Office behaved appallingly .. their arrogance was breathtaking. But Fujitsu were finally exposed after hiding behind the P.O.

As I have said before, I sincerely hope we will, see Fujitsu "experts" jailed for Perjury / Conspiracy to Pervert the Course of Justice as appropriate.

Agreed, but only after evidence has been scrutinised in a court of law and not a trial by media. There is so much more to this case that is coming out now in the inquiry.

Of course - inquiry files need to be input into the CPS. Indeed, more names may come into the frame - assuming Fujitsu and the PO haven't destroyed evidence.

More interesting testimony yesterday. A Fujitsu software support engineer gave evidence. He said there were some incidents where a postmistress at a mobile site was continually unable to upload transactions. It transpired that the laptop she was using had its standby key wired to its power off key and vice versa

Has Paula Vennels been stripped of her honours yet? Or is some pleb going to carry the can?

I see that the Post Masters have been offered a derisory £10K maximum for loss of reputation. Disgraceful.

The compensation sums are yet to be settled. The sums are much larger than that. The govt has decreed that PMs should be at compensated fully for their losses and to be at least in a position equivalent to before they were prosecuted.
