Well I've come to the conclusion I'm never going to reach retirement age if they keep moving the goal posts.

My Mother had made sure she'd paid the full stamp all the way through her working life was persuaded to carry on working until she was 67 to get more money - she only drew a month of it and then she upped and died, so that didn't do her a lot of good.

I do not seem able to reconcile OH state pension with any figures I can see on the internet, she retired in Nov 2012, I can remember there was some sort of problem with her contribution record, she worked a max of 2 years after leaving school with Lloyds bank in the city. I don't know, but I presume she would have been paying NI contributions there, after that 2 children the last of which reached 18 in 1991, from memory I recall that was the problem, they didn't know and had not allowed her contributions, which obviously she did not make, for the years she was looking after the children, so that had to be put right. She then never contributed any NI, albeit she was a partner in our retail outlet, but due to very bad advice from our so called accountant, but only class 4 or something which I was told was not pension related. After that it was about 3 years working in a Budgens supermarket, where again she paid NI. So what is the basic rate of pension for a woman of this genre, I thought there was some sort of allowance which allowed the husbands contributions to be allocated to hers

There should be an allowance for the years when she was able to draw child benefit. I know that always used to be the case. I can't remember if it stopped at 16 or 18 but with overlapping years it should be 16+. Assume 18 +2+3=23 years at least classed as countable years.
The important bit is did your wife draw the child benefit. If you did then forget it.

A bit of text from today's Figaro concerning fuel strikes:

Dans le pétrole, la CGT prévoit des grèves les 19 et 26 janvier et le 6 février avec «si nécessaire, l'arrêt des installations de raffinage». Des «arrêts dans l'expédition des carburants» sont aussi anticipés. Des dépôts de carburant pourraient ainsi être bloqués, avec le risque pour les consommateurs de revivre la situation de l'automne dernier. Certains experts du secteur redoutent «un débordement des syndicats par la base» voire «une dérive violente du mouvement». Mais Agnès Pannier-Runacher, la ministre de la Transition énergétique, a voulu «rassurer les automobilistes. We were lucky in so much as the DW was a Seamstress so could work from home while bring up our two children, she couldn't wait to get back to work with all the other girls, she missed the gossip and camaraderie. I started shelf filling at a local supermarket at 16yrs, still at school, as well as doing a paper round and in the school holidays working in a mill, as a dogsbody not too bad, daddy was the company secretary, so when I did the paperwork to claim my pension last year, these jobs, apart from the paper round, were listed as contributing years.
