Problem logging in to Ebay

I have not used Ebay for some time, and found today that I can not log in to either Ebay France or UK.

My username and password (neither of which I have changed for a long time) seem to be accepted, but I am not receiving any verification code sent by SMS. As far as I remember this always worked previously, but I am now on a new laptop. My previous PC crashed and is beyond repair.

The situation is the same on an old laptop I have.

The mobile phone number they are sending the SMS to shows the correct first "0" and last 2 numbers, so I assume it is correct. I have had the same number since I first got a French mobile.

Has anyone here had a similar problem recently?

I was locked out of my account a few days ago. Username/password/I'm not a robot/Captcha game then a message about needing to phone a number to get logged in. The phone number didn't go anywhere apart from a French recorded message about who knows what. I spent an entire day trying to contact someone at ebay to get it sorted out but all such contacts required being logged in first. I gave up and the following day it let me log in. Still puzzled as to why. I always get an email telling me I am logging in from a different location which is totall bollox because I always log in using my desktop PC which doesn't travel anywhere. Security and stupidity, stir well and serve.

They keep changing sign-in procedures, sometimes a cookie or browser update problem. Several suggestions.
