t despite having a Linky the bill I received was an estimate

I had an estimate for a bill last summer and, being the pessimist that I am, I called the electricity people in case the meter was broken. Apparently they take readings on the same day every month. If there's a technical problem of some sort they don't try again the following day, they just estimate it on your previous years usage in that month.

They certainly didn’t base their estimate of my usage on previous year’s figures as it was only a bit over half what it usually is. I have always recorded my electricity usage noting the figure when I sent the meter reading every two months and putting it into a app. It can then be used to draw graphs and it’s always been interesting to see how year on year the figures in terms of units used are almost identical.

Then I can't help apart from saying that, just because you've got a Linky, it doesn't meant you won't get an estimated bill from time to time.

I wasn’t asking for help, I was just pointing out that an estimated reading had resulted in the following Linky reading appearing to have implied that my electricity costs had risen considerably.

Thats a lot of electricity all our houses are different and for different reasons, so its hard to compare like for like, I live in a 100m2 new build all electric, we use the dryer, washer each week, UFH set at 23C our bills which we pay monthly are 177€ they are due to rise by I think 13%/15% so another 20+ per month.

I've just remembered another way we seem have reduced our electricity consumption : we've been running the dishwasher and washing machine on shorter cycles and we use both machines frequently.
However, with the price of diesel, our fioul bill has gone up ...

We've reduced the time our hot water heater runs. Made a huge difference in the bill.

Always run the washing machine on the short wash. Only run tumble dryer when necessary (towels, sheets).

Our hours creuse are between 22h30 and 6h30, so VERY unfriendly (to me anyway). We do run the dishwasher during hours creuse.

House gets a lot of natural light, so we rarely turn lights on, except in bathroom and when cooking.

Interesting! We use a 30 minute cycle for the dishwasher. I abandoned clothes dryers years ago as I realised they eat electricity. I also don't use the oven much, another energy gobbler.
+ We've been using timers for years, so the Heures Creuses times don't matter. Current timers are used for washing machine and hot water cylinder.

As you say it’s very difficult to compare different houses and different lifestyles. I was actually surprised to see how much you pay per month in your modern home. Looking at it as someone who lives in a bigger old stone house which relies on electricity for the majority of its heating and all the cooking and water heating I would have expected your bills to have been half of that. As it is your electricity bills are about 50% higher than mine when I would have expected them to have been 50% lower.
