As I am 100% ALD on a couple of items, one of which is my heart, I was pondering over the following. I recently had the electric shock treatment, to try and get my heart back in sync, cost of room for the day 45€, it didn't work. Monday I went in at 9am for the heart ablation, where they stick a rod up your groin and create scar tissue or something within the heart, so went in Monday at 9am, sat around for 2 hours, operation at 11am and discharged at 9 am the next morning, charged 180€, which I think is a bit steep for basically B&B for one night, anyway as I am 100% should that not be picked up by the CPAM. I will add that when I filled out the pre admission form I booked a 45€ room and that was accepted, however the man on the counter then told me, after the event, that 45 was a day room outpatient rate, and that the 90€ a day was for the Monday and Tuesday, making it 2 days, I was out of there by 9am, no doubt they got another 90€ for the room on the same day. Do you think I should contact CPAM or will it be fruitless.

One of the major clinics in Strasbourg charges by the day (00:00-23:59), so an arrival one day, departure the next day (so an overnight stay) incurs two days of room charges! I don't know how common that is?

In my experience you get reimbursed for room fees but not the meals element. At CHU Angers, or Paul Papin Angers which are both public through to Clinique d'Anjou which is private, it's always been the same. Cost roughly 20e a day. Do you have a Mutuelle? I did once get an invoice for more and when I questioned it they admitted that if someone has a Mutuelle they pass on some fees. I ponted out we didn't have one, at which point the charge was cancelled.

I don't agree .. OH spent parts of 3 days in Hospital having another stent added to his collection.
He has ALD for his various problems and the charges for the operation and associated costs were covered but we still needed to pay for the room service ie meals etc.
As our mutuelle covers 35€ per day and the Hospital cost was 50€ a day we paid a bill on exit of 45€.

Edit : This is the local Hospital, the Clinic daily cost would have been a lot more.

@suein56 You're nright of course, and @Mangetout. I'd forgotten about the different cover with mutuelles. I've no idea what ours is, but I know it doesn't cover transport for eye appointments, a nuisance as I have to beg a lift from family or friends.

I do have a mutuelle with Pacifica arranged via Credit Agricole works out about 115€ a month and as can be expected it is next to useless, I have approached them to upgrade it but the premium then doubles. Thing is with both of us being ALD the CPAM or whoever picks up 99% of the cost, very rare do either of us have to shell out at a consultation, so the mutuelle, as far as I can see is on to a win win situation

You could always opt for Hospitalisation only .. in the event of a necessary non-ALD-related Hospital stay. My friend has that (she's 87) but it does only pay for what it says .. costs her around 30€ or so a month.

As far as I am aware sue that is what I have now, but I have been informed that they do not pay for operation cost and the room charges, so what they pay for, God almighty knows, think we are going to have a review, but there doesn't seem to be a company that can give you just the aspects you want it's either package 1, 2 or 3.
