No, nor with today's incumbant.

As I passed the pond on the way out for the forest walk with Jules I saw a small snake wiggling along on the surface. He (?) went to the side and then followed the contours of the folds in the liner all the way round one corner looking, I suppose, for food. He finally disappeared under a lateral fold and didn't emerge. If that is where he lives I am surprised because it is right where my floating thermometer is and I pick it up to read each time I am in there swimming, and I would have thought the disturbance was not to his liking.

He is the same species, coulevre I think, as the larger one I have seen from time to time over the years in the bottom, smaller, pond. Difficult to see the colouring but the tell tale twin white flashes behind the head are very clear.

After the walk, clearing the garden of Jules' leavings and providing his breakfast, I was straight in there for my morning swim. Never saw him but no doubt he was keeping well clear of such an apparent threat. Just pleased that he didn't consider part of my anatomy a tasty snack or, worse still if female, a suitable mate.

Return visit from the 'hoop' this morning, managed to stop shaking long enough to get a better shot.

I hadn't seen any tadpoles for some time till the other day and saw just the one swimming near me. I thought it was a bit late in the season for them still to be at that stage but, 2 days ago, I reached the end of the first length and the tiniest, but completely formed, froglet swam nonchalantly passed me.

Is this really not too late in the year for survival, or has he missed the boat already?

While sat in the shade this week we have seen a lot of juvenile frogs hopping across the driveway, they are only a couple of centimetre in size, but all heading in the same direction, which is to the fields that surround us.

That's good news for me, I haven't seen any more of the little ones so I hope they are migrating, or growing in situ when I am not looking.

I've seen several juvenile froglettes as well - 'tas been a strange year. Our swallows disappeared sometime back in August only to return a couple of weeks later.

The last few days there have been swallows/ martins everywhere.like you [mention]Char[/mention] we thought that they had flown
