Maybe the answer is to equip all armed Police with bodycams - and maybe issue some with tasers instead of firearms?

I was similarly shocked in 2016 amid the chaos at Stade de France when I asked a female Laura Norder cradling a sub-machine gun how we could get out of the bordel - she ignored me totally.
Better training, PR, bodycams would all help I'm sure.

We had a similar experience in Paris trying to find a way round a manif - he told us to go away !

In the summer we sometimes work with the CRS and the difference in demeanour is interesting with one or two having a serious attitude problem. If we feel it, and we're on the same "side", how must the public feel ?

I made a good friend at the boatyard where I once lived. He was French and made a bit of cash teaching French to adult classes. He structured them to include cultural issues as well as useful language. He explained the levels of law enforcement. Police, Gendarmes, and CRS. Police - local ground level policing normally staffed from outside the area they will cover. Gendarmes - not restricted but directed to wherever needed. CRS - - usually ex army specials heavy on attitude and light on intrapersonal skills. "Never ask one for directions".

Yet again we're seeing violence and criminal damage ...
Amina Kalache, a local journalist based in Nanterre says :

Is it ? Is that how they explain away the violence and destruction every time it happens ?
Do they expect the police to ignore it and just let it happen or will they continue to find it acceptable to demonstrate in this way, destroying property and in some cases damaging/destroying people's livelihoods ?
It's understandable that people are angry and upset about what has happened, but do they not realise that (rightly or wrongly) violence will be used to fight violence ? Apparently not.

@Mangetout France does not permit ethnic data to be kept. The most likely scenario in this case is that the guy was recognised as a repeat offender.
I now understand that the car involved was hired (!) and that the guy was a delivery driver (!!). How either of those are possible, I don't know, but hey this is France.
